Can I do what I love and ONLY what I love? And NOT die broke and lonely…
Not sure…
Let me tell you a story:
September 2011. I finally decide to take ownership of my desire to be an actress, and sign up for a method acting course in Citylit.
I meet Kevin Bisbangian who contact me later on in March 2012 to act in one of his movies. We chat for one hour about art, life and poetry and at the end of the meeting, he tells me: “I want to make a documentary about you and your poems!”
Ok, let’s do it! Kevin follows me for several days in my art studio , my dreams, my words, and my sketchbooks… and creates a 30 minutes documentary called “Poetic Emotion”.
March 2013. Kevin calls me: “We are nominated for “Best short Documentary” at the Saint Tropez International Film Festival!! Do you want to come with me to the award ceremony on the 18th May?
God! What a battle to decide!
My mind was saying: “No, Juliette, it’s not serious, you will spend a lot of money between flight, hotel and haircut. It’s not even a big festival. It’s at the same time as Cannes. And it’s not even happening in St Tropez but in Nice, it must be crap. And the movie is not that good anyway, it won’t win. It’s a waste of time and money, I’d better work on my paintings and find ways to earn more money.”
And of course, my heart was telling me: “Go darling! Be crazy! Celebrate! Be witnessed in your beauty!”
My beauty? What are you talking about?
After 3 days saying “No” then “Yes” then “No” to Kevin. I finally call him: “You know what Kevin? I choose to be crazy! I choose to live every aspect of my life! Working, creating, loving AND celebrating! I’m coming with you! At what time is your flight?”
Friday 17th May.
6am. Gatwick airport. We’re doing it! Kevin is here with Judith, Susanna, Jayne and Ali, four of his friends coming to support us!
10am. Hello Nice!
7pm. Networking evening at the Westminster hotel. Everyone is looking at Andrea Bowen. “Who?” the woman who acts in “Desperate Housewives”. Ooooh. I meet Susan, who has come from Sydney to support her screenplay adapted from her own sci-fi novel! This other woman comes from India and has just been ordered as Buddhist monk, this man knows the producer of Clint Eastwood, that lady is a producer from New York and those super enthusiastic Mexican women are here for their 4 million dollars movie “Amorous Pancho Villa”. Oh my good! This is big!
Saturday 18th May 2013.
Award Ceremony. 8pm. Everyone is so glamorous. We are sitting at table number 12. The woman in green has started announcing the winners. Kevin and I and our friends are listening very very carefully…
“And the award for Best short documentary goes to… Poetic Emotion!” Aaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhh!
I jump to Kevin, grab his hand and run to the stage. Oh my God!
When the award reaches my hand, I’m deeply moved and so grateful. Do yo know what I think?
“Juliette, just do what you love and ONLY what you love, you will touch others and you’ll be rewarded!”
“And what about money?” shouts my mind. The flash of the camera shuts it up. “Providence will take care of you, honey.”
Friday 7th June 2013. You are invited to the London premiere of “Poetic Emotion”. Come along!
Can you do what you love and ONLY what you love?
YES you can.
“Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you have imagined.” – Henry David Thoreau
I will spend my entire life living that YES with all my cells!
And if sometimes I don’t do what I love, I’ll just bring love to it. And poetry.
Have a gorgeous day!
